Want to turn your CM5 into a Pi 5? Yes, yes you do!

This adapter board from Waveshare converts a Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 into the footprint and connector style of a Raspberry Pi 5, including a full 40-pin GPIO header, USB ports, Gigabit Ethernet, PCIe interface, PoE header, RTC header, MicroSD slot, fan header, power button and more.

Some things are shifted around a bit, such as the dual DSI/CSI ports, but the majority of features mirror the Pi 5 layout. An interesting addition is the audio interface, which uses a little included module to provide a 3.5mm jack output.

We can't guarantee this board will work in all Raspberry Pi 5 cases (as some hug the board very closely), but it should work with most.

Important stuff

Because it's not going to be exactly like a Raspberry Pi 5 of course...

• Do not plug or unplug any device other than USB and HDMI when the device is powered on
• USB-C can be used as a USB SLAVE interface to flash images
• Onboard default 2 USB 3.2 Gen1 port
• Supports 4 screens to display different contents, adds MIPI DSI driver, regardless of whether a screen is connected, the system will default to connect, the screen will display in split-screen mode (related to the system version)
• The onboard BOOT button, you can press the BOOT button before powering on, and connect to the computer through USB0-C to let the device enter the flashing mode
• Do not connect other devices when using USBC for flashing. Insufficient power supply will cause the device to be unrecognised
• The USB2.0 ports have a total maximum power output of 2A, and the USB3.0 ports have a total maximum power output of 2A

1. CM5 socket
   • Suitable for all variants of Compute Module 5.
2. 40-pin GPIO interface
   • Suitable for connecting a range of HAT and HAT+ modules.
3. Power supply / programming
   • Supports a 5 V / 5 A power supply and can also be used for eMMC flashing.
4. STAT LED
   • Dual-colour LED status indicator.
5. PSW power button
   • Long press to force a power-off; short press to perform a soft power-off or power-on.
6. PCIe interface
   • For connecting a range of PCIe expansion boards.
7. RTC battery header
   • For connecting an external RTC battery to maintain real-time clock operation.
8. BOOT button
   • Press before powering on, then release after powering on to enter flashing mode.
9. 2 × Micro HDMI ports
   • Supports up to 4K output.
10. Extended audio interface
    • Provides audio output via USB and includes an audio adaptor for connecting 3.5 mm headphones or a microphone.
11. 4-pin PoE header
    • For connecting a PoE module.
12. Dual MIPI interfaces
    • For connecting DSI displays or CSI cameras.
13. 4-pin JST-SH PWM fan header
    • For connecting a 5 V cooling fan.
14. 2 × USB 2.0 ports
15. 2 × USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports
    • Supports simultaneous read and write operations at speeds of up to 5 Gbps.
16. Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 port
    • Supports 10/100/1000 Mbps network connections.
17. TF card slot
    • For use with a TF card containing a pre-installed image (Lite variant only).
18. IO-VREF selection
    • Selects the CM5 I/O logic level: 3.3 V (default) or 1.8 V.
19. Other function pins
    • For hardware disable functionality or write protection.
